JOB SUMMARY:
A Medical Assistant (MA) or licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is a multi-skilled professional and an asset to a physician. They are an integral part of the healthcare team assisting in patient care management.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
A. Assess the mental status of the patient prioritizing acuity
B. Provide safety, observation, de-escalation, and redirection when needed
C. Be able to report early signs of escalation to provider
D. Assists with the preparation of patients prior to seeing the psychiatric provider.
E. Assists the behavioral health providers with patient care in the conduct of clinical examinations and materials preparation; (i.e. triage, AIMS, assessment, behavioral health screenings.)
F. Acts as a translator for patients as needed if qualified.
G. Responsible for taking vital signs, administering injectable medications, and performing procedures for specimen collection.
H. Performs simple laboratory procedures.
I. Provide patient counseling regarding in-house lab work and procedures
J. Assist in the maintenance of inventories and stocking of supplies in nursing and lab areas
K. Maintain logs of required data as needed (quality checks, vaccine logs, etc.)
L. Acts as the patient's advocate and liaison for preservation of patient rights
M. Participates in departmental meetings and other patient related committees as needed
N. Participates in outreach and community screenings as needed O. Participates in case management and patient surveys in maintaining quality assurance
INTERMITTENT DUTIES:
A. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
OFF-SITE WORK:
A. Although it is not typical, off-site work could, at times be required for this position. This off-site work will typically include but is not limited to, performing nursing duties (i.e.Telehealth Visits from home, Health Fairs, other HOPE sponsored events and attending meetings, trainings or conferences.)
QUALIFICATIONS:
A. High School Diploma or equivalent required
B. Medical Assistant/Licensed Practical Nurse
C. Basic CPR (BCLS) Certification
D. Two years' experience working in a related health care field is preferred
E. Capacity for covering Medical Assistants/Licensed Practical Nurses at all sites as needed
F. Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred
G. Certified Mental Health Technician is preferred
H. Be familiar with motivational interviewing skills
TECHNICAL SKILLS:
A. Operate a motor vehicle with current Class D driver's license. Operate a personal computer or calculator.
B. Problem solving: Frequent problems arise in this position that are outside established policies or bodies of knowledge calling for a high-level skill in problem solving.
C. Decision Making: Frequent situations arise in this position calling for careful and analytical judgement.
D. Supervisory: Extensive responsibility for the direct supervision of management, staff and contract employees. Requires the judicious use of delegation.
E. Interpersonal: Must interact with employees, Board of Directors governmental officials and the public.
F. Working Conditions: Works in well-lighted, climate-controlled building. May be subjected to appearance in less than desirable environment and travel in adverse weather conditions. May be exposed to body fluids.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
A. Requires sufficient visual acuity to be able to read and write and operate equipment common to this position. Required to read, write and speak English with the ability to speak a foreign language helpful. Requires sufficient hearing level to be able to effectively communicate with people directly by telephone. Occasionally lift items weighing up to 25 pounds.
